Marguerite Appel is a social development advisor specialised in gender and development with expertise in programme management, training, social and institutional analysis, strategy  development, policy advice, action research, gender mainstreaming, and integration of equity concerns across sectors in policy and programme development, planning, monitoring and evaluation. Since 1998 she has undertaken action research initiatives and cross country 
development programmes in partnership with civil society organizations and national public institutions, focusing on women’s economic participation and empowerment; gender justice, citizenship and governance; and rights-based approaches to development. Her work experience over the last 30 years cover a broad range of countries in Sub Sahara Africa, South and East Asia, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Based in Cairo, she recently completed a 3-year 
assignment as team leader of the Euromed Role of Women in Economic Life programme. She is a partner in DACS.
